Pumpkin Shoot - Multi-Use Range - BYOP (bring your own pumpkins)

  • 28 Oct 2023
  • 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Multi-Use Range

Setup starts around 12:00 PM. Shooting starts at 1:00 PM.

Do not show up without first reading the information below:

All adult current members are welcome to attend. No registration is required. Show up when you can. We will be running each evening as a mini-match and have rankings for the participants that evening.

We encourage new shooters as well as seasoned shooters to attend this event. It is a great way to get introduced to action shooting sports. All shooting is done under the direction of a Range Safety Officer to ensure the safest possible event possible. We will walk you through every step safely. Due to the requirements of proper Range Safety protocols, social distancing is NOT possible between Range Safety Officers and participants during this event. If you are vulnerable or have concerns regarding communicable diseases, we ask you to avoid this event. The safety of participants and spectators is of the highest concern. Proper range safety officer protocol dictates that the RSO can immediately take control over the shooter’s firearm at any time to prevent an unsafe situation.

The targets we shoot at are commercial steel targets rated for traditional pistol calibers at shorter ranges. No magnum cartridges. The courses of fire are based on "Steel Challenge" competition matches. We shoot MUCH more informal than an actual match. However, we take safety as seriously as a professional match. We do NOT shoot from the holster like most official competition shooting. For October, we will shoot IPSC style cardboard targets in the Multi-Use Berm with Pistols and Carbines at some longer distances. This will be pretty random to what challenging stages or courses of fire will be shot.

The most important thing to know when showing up is that the event is run as a "cold range". This means there are NO guns out of cases or being handled behind the firing line. Pistols and Rifles should be brought in a closed case or zippered sleeve and unloaded with magazines outside of the case. Holsters DO NOT count as a case. You WILL be allowed to load magazines behind the firing line at any time. Ammo, magazines and pistols should not be in the same case at this event. If you have a chamber flag, please have one in your firearms prior to arrival. If you do not have a chamber flag, we will provide as many as you need free at the event and get you squared away either at the safe table or on the shooting line.

Carry guns can be loaded and on your person at the event as long as you are not planning to shoot or handle that gun during the event. If you plan to shoot your carry gun, it needs to arrive at the event in a case and unloaded.

There will be a safety briefing at the start of the event and one on one safety briefings for those arriving later.

Eye and ear protection is required for anyone attending, including bystanders. Side shield style or wrap around eye protection is HIGHLY recommended. Amplified hearing protection is an advantage as well, but not required.

Cost is $5 for all the events. Generally, there are between 3-5 events depending on how many shooters show up. Credit Card is the only forms of payment accepted. Punch cards will be available for purchase as well and preferred. The same punch cards for trap league can be used for pistol league.

This may sound a little intimidating, but be assured that this is a great group of club members that get together to have fun, improve handgun skills, enjoy great company in a safe environment. All are welcome. There is of course some friendly competition that occurs but that is not the primary focus.

If all you have is a .22 LR pistol that is the ideal handgun to start shooting this event with. Most shooters shoot .22 LR in addition to other calibers as well. It is a fantastic way to learn the fundamentals without getting fatigued or spending a ton of money on ammo.

If anyone has RSO experience or qualifications and would like to help run the event on Mondays, please let us know. This event is 100% volunteer coordinated and staffed. It’s future depends on the commitment of a few regular attenders willing to help manage it.
